The atmosphere while grabbing a chair in the beautiful Mountain Room at the Hotel Eldorado with Maria was calm and welcoming. Laced with inspirational quotes and wisdom, listening to Maria detail her life experiences opened up another side of her.
Leaving her family of seven siblings behind in the Philippines years ago to start a new life in Canada was a difficult yet rewarding decision for her. University educated with a Bachelor of Science, Maria explains she has always been hard working.
“Be patient, don’t give up,” Maria describes that not everything in life comes easy and some things just take extra time and effort.
The fast paced atmosphere housekeeping demands can be stressful at times explains Maria, though at the end of the day when the job is done she leaves with a feeling of completeness. The hot weather season brings a challenge for housekeeping; more rooms to monitor in an efficient way.
“When you do a good job, guests’ remember it,” Maria elaborates on how she enjoys taking the extra step, enhancing the El experience for visitors.
Maria reveals that she lives her life with no regrets and feels “everyday is a miracle.” It seems that this outlook helped shape Maria’s choice of song depicting her work ethic- Against all Odds by Bill Collins.
So what is her favourite thing on the menu? Maria says when she gets the chance to come in and enjoy her place of work she orders the chicken nachos, because they are so good!
Maria likes the warm atmosphere the El owners and management portray, and she takes pride in her ability to tackle anything that comes up day to day. Her determined and precise attitude make Maria a valuable part of the team here that the Eldorado and there is a lot that can be learned from her views on life. Keep it up Maria!
